Questions

What is your current career stage and what can help you unlock your next level?
I am currently an artist represented by a gallery, participating in but also initiating exhibitions and special projects (acting as artist or curator). I am re-grounding myself in Dubai, my home, after 7 years in the US, being active between the regions. I think community, especially an authentic creative one, where ideas, projects and more spawn and manifest, is crucial to develop myself as well as other practitioners in the creative world. I think this initiative (1833) is amazing and much needed, and will foster long-term relationships and facilitate many future projects and develop people’s interests and ideas, prompting more home-grown innovation. Also key: authenticity, I resonate with whole heartedly.
Why would you want to join 1833/١٨٣٣?
I would like to be apart of an authentic and creative community, fostering an environment that sparks people’s intersecting interests and ideas. Being an artist active in the region, but also being a naturally social person, I believe I can bring unconventional and innovative ideas, that may prompt conversations that lead to future projects and initiatives with other community members. I also strive to create and facilitate, and I think the grass-roots aspect of such is very important to me, and I think 1833 would be a wonderful manifestation of such ideas and progression.
What are your creative interests? How do you spend your free time?
My creative interests are very diverse and all feed in to my practice at large - whether it be research, collecting objects and material, archiving, distorting, and making. I spend my free time researching and reading about topics of interest (art, history, archaeology, culture), as well as socializing (which I think is an important aspect of being an artist, genuine community building), and watching movies - all the former things being, if I’m not making art or visiting art exhibitions.
