Questions

What is your current career stage and what can help you unlock your next level?
I am currently an international curator managing a transcontinental curatorial department in New York City and Abu Dhabi. Through 1833 I would like to meet likeminded peers that will help me bridge my interests and Latin American heritage to the MENA region, as I'm a byproduct of this mix (I am Costa Rican/Iranian).
Why would you want to join 1833/١٨٣٣?
Through the 1833 community, I would want to connect and foster relationships which would allow me to find a transnational bridge between my Latin American roots and currently home in the UAE (and the MENA region at large). Through my 10+ years of experience being an international curator, and having lived in London, Abu Dhabi, and New York, the most vibrant art capitals, has exposed me to the field of international contemporary art, growing transcultural network, and a colorful background of creative interests/topics, which inform my day to day work but also personal interests.
What are your creative interests? How do you spend your free time?
I am currently a curator and Manager of Curatorial Affairs at the Guggenheim, soon to open in Abu Dhabi. My creative interests range from Latin American art, specifically Brazilian contemporary art, exhibition history, and object based research, discovering new music around the world and being an 'amateur' selector at parties, experimenting with creative tablescapes /flower arrangements for dinner parties, and reading 19th century French and Russian literature. I travel quite often for work, so I am constantly conducting studio visits and getting informed from international contemporary artists about their interests/inspirations, and how that also informs both my curatorial practice and personal music and art interests.
