What is your current career stage and what can help you unlock your next level?
I am currently an artist represented by Tabari Artspace in Dubai. In 2023, my career pivoted with my first solo show at Tabari Artspace, selling out my work at Art Dubai, a group show in Chicago, a duo show at NYUAD, and a trio show at ICD Brookfield. I have found myself in a productive and progressing practice which I hope will only inspire me more down the road in my, hopefully, long life. As an artist I have a particular focus and love for painting, a traditional medium which finds itself needing to reinvent and rediscover itself. It holds a high reverence in Art and with that it’s necessary progression, formally and conceptually. I am a painter, and I am actively working on making an impact on how we see. I sometimes struggle with feeling comfortable with the art I see represented in the UAE, i cannot pin point what it is that makes me feel that way, maybe it’s the lack of constructive criticism which always finds its way to the artists with a smile and praise. We need to work on how we collectively can help ourselves and other makers to become better at what we do, it’s not sustainable for artists to be praised and appreciated for making art, but rather for the substance it possesses
Why would you want to join 1833/١٨٣٣?
1833 looks like a very promising club, I’m hoping to meet many like minded people and have the opportunity to meet in a more comfortable space the people who are participating in the creative community and collectively talk about how we can further progress the creative world from the UAE to the larger Middle East
What are your creative interests? How do you spend your free time?
An important aspect of my practice is looking at art. If I’m not creating I’m looking, if I’m not looking I’m thinking. To be consistently observant of what is being created from my immediate environment to practices around the world. Exploring ways that art is reinventing itself constantly in an over-saturated world. I enjoy looking at histories through art and the ways that art finds itself changing synonymously with the progression of culture, technology, society, geography, ideology etc. Above all it’s about experiencing our contemporary world, how can I create without being a participant of it.
