Questions

What is your current career stage and what can help you unlock your next level?
For the past 3 years i’ve been working in my family’s furniture company here in Aleppo”Bahhade Furniture Company” , learning all about the design and manufacturing process, and spending most of my time in the factory. I’ve recently started my own line of production “naba”, and have produced a number of products so far with clients from around the Levant and the Gulf mainly. My interest in 1883 came from my desire to expand circle of creatives who are also in business, to learn more about the balance between the two, and generally to meet likeminded people who are excited to grow not just personally, but become a part of the growth of their communities.
Why would you want to join 1833/١٨٣٣?
Since I live in Aleppo and have a few trips to the UAE each year, i think my time with the community might be limited but valuable. As i mentioned previously, i am mainly eager to meet more people who believe in the power of communities, and understand that if the community is not well, individuals won’t be well and vice-versa. When you deeply believe in this, it is very difficult to be the only one in your surroundings who does. Here in Aleppo, most people are still coming out of the long years of war and have a different set of priorities, which is completely understandable. But for me, having spent most of the years of the war abroad (Lebanon and Italy), I have a different vision and another set of priorities, looking further down the line and trying to work on the future of the country and the area. I believe being part of the 1833 community will introduce me to people with similar beliefs, which will help me grow and give me inspiration on how to move forward. Regarding what I could add to the community: Since I came back to Aleppo in 2020, I’ve organised a number of events and been part of some other in Aleppo and Damasucs, went deep into the creative scene of the country, and eventually arrived at the industrial and commercial aspects, weaving a wide network of connections all over. From what i’ve generally observed, these sides of the Syrian culture are not well presented in many circles. If that’s the case in 1833, i would happily be representing especially the young creative and industrial reality of Aleppo. Other than that, my academic background is in Psychology and Arts & Culture Management, and throughout these few years, i’ve explored different ways to incorporate them all together in a way that is beneficial both for me, and for my country. I love sharing this experience with people because its been very challenging, but very fruitful all at once.
What are your creative interests? How do you spend your free time?
The scope is very wide but my main creative interest is actually trying to create cultural and artistic spaces in Aleppo, where I live. In my free time I try to meet up with other people who might be interested in this and discuss future plans, collaborations and organise small events i’m the city. I’m also a DJ, so i perform at events from time to time and spend a lot of time exploring new music.
