What is your current career stage and what can help you unlock your next level?
I'm wearing two hats at the moment. I have an intense day job, as an Artistic & Curatorial Manager of public art projects in KSA, which brings me often to Riyadh and has been an entry point into the thriving Saudi art scene. I also have my own LLC, Global Art Daily Agency based in Dubai, which I've been trying to grow in terms of ad sales on our digital publications, specialized arts & culture content production, and retail sales of merchandise and ready-to-wear pieces. Meeting other entrepreneurs in the arts, design & media sectors would help unlock potential partnerships. I have built Global Art Daily organically for the past decade, and I'd love to take it to the next level.
Why would you want to join 1833/١٨٣٣?
Everyone complains about the lack of creative communities in Dubai – which I think is untrue, you just have to find your tribe. The challenge is finding a community that schedules gatherings well and often, as we often get swept off by the city's fast pace and end up living in our cocoons. I believe being part of 1833 will make me feel more grounded in Dubai, as I'm beginning to settle back in the UAE after years living in Tokyo. I believe in give & take, and would be more than happy to help other fellow members with connections, tips, and information as it relates to collecting & exhibiting contemporary art in the region, or collaborating with emerging artists and designers.
What are your creative interests? How do you spend your free time?
I spend most of my time visiting, writing about, pitching, and organizing art exhibitions. Life is art, and art is life. I tend to work with contemporary artists from the Gulf and Japan, making connections between two disparate regions I call home. Outside of this, I love dressing up and organizing fun shoots. I have a thing for vintage silk kimonos.
